This weeks aganeda and reminders 10/31


In ELA/Reading we are reading The Big Circle This story's phonics lesson focuses on CVCe(long u). Grammar will deal with nouns in sentences
 Sight Words:  around, find, good, grow, under, water
Spelling Words:  use, huge, flute, mule, mute, cube, rude,
*Review these concepts with your child by:
-having your child write sentences and circle the nouns nouns

-having your child find nouns in TV commercials, on websites, etc.
-having your child find long u, long e (CVCe)  words in magazines, newspapers, billboards, etc. and making a book with these new found words.
-use the spelling games from:  http://www.quia.com/ba/105557.html and http://www.spellingcity.com/view-spelling-list.html?listId=1540688&x=ca14c
-making flashcards to read and repeat(spelling words, sight words, amazing words).

In Math, we will be focusing on beginning money.
*You can review these concepts with your child by:
-making them identify coins found in your purse, pocket, wallet and try counting them

-making them count lunch money, money for toys, etc.
-allowing them to help pay for things by discussing what you may need to purchase
-utilizing xtramath.org  (for continued addition and subtraction help)

This week's agenda and reminders 10/24


In ELA/Reading we are reading The Big Circle This story's phonics lesson focuses on CVCe(long i). Grammar will deal with plural nouns
 Sight Words:  down, inside, now, there, together
Spelling Words:  home, hope, rose, woke, those, bone, hose, joke, rode, stone, there, together
*Review these concepts with your child by:
-having your child make a "T" chart and write a list of nouns one one side and thier plurals on the other
-having your child do a noun hunt for plurals words
-having your child find long o CVCe words in magazines, newspapers, billboards, etc. and making a book with these new found words.
-use the spelling games from:

-making flashcards to read and repeat(spelling words, sight words, amazing words).

In Math, we will be focusing on subtraction, addition and fact families(continued).
*You can review these concepts with your child by:
-using a deck of cards to add/subtract - randomly draw numbers and have your child find the sum or difference(make sure with subtraction they put the big number first).
-using food (cereal, cookies, macaroni noodles, spaghetti noodles, etc.) to have your child make addition and subtraction sentences.
-using addition or subtraction flash cards to review addition facts ($1 at the Dollar Tree)
-utilizing xtramath.org

*Review these concepts with your child by:
-having your child write or give you the names of people with special titles i.e. Ms. Summers, Mr. Shadinger, Dr. Phil

-having your child find do a noun hunt for special titles
-having your child find long i CVCe words in magazines, newspapers, billboards, etc. and making a book with these new found words.

-making flashcards to read and repeat(spelling words, sight words, amazing words).

In ELA/Reading we are reading The Farmer and the Hat. This story's phonics lesson focuses on CVCe(long a). Grammar will deal with proper nouns.view these concepts with your child by:
-having your child write or say words that name things and then giving you a specific name for something.

i.e.:  school - Factory Shoals Elementary.
-having your child find words that name specific things while driving, shopping (noun hunt).
-having your child find long a CVCe words in magazines, newspapers, billboards, etc. and making a book with these new found words.

-making flashcards to read and repeat(spelling words, sight words, amazing words).

In Math, we will be focusing on addition.

*You can review these concepts with your child by:
-using a deck of cards to add two digit numbers and have your child find the sum.
-using food (cereal, cookies, macaroni noodles, spaghetti noodles, etc.) to have your child made addition sentences.

-using addtion flash cards to review addition facts ($1 at the Dollar Tree(proper noun :))
-utilizing xtramath.org

In Science, we will begin talking about light and sound. Social Studies will wrap up our unit on Folktales (Johnny Appleseed, Paul Bunyan, John Henry, Annie Oakley, and Davy Crockett)

In ELA/Reading we are reading A Big Fish for Max. This story's phonics lesson focuses on the sounds produced by sh and th. Grammar will deal with nouns (naming words).
*You can review these concepts with your child by:
-having your child write or say words that name things.

-having your child cut out pictures from magazines that name things.
-having your child find words that name things while driving or shopping (noun hunt).
-having your child find sh and th words in magazines, newspapers, billboards, etc. and making a book with these new found words.

-making flashcards to read and repeat(spelling words, sight words, amazing words).

In Math, we will be focusing on 10 more and 10 less, 1 more and 1 less.

*You can review these concepts with your child by:
-using a deck of cards to form two digit numbers and have your child identify 10 more, 10 less, 1 more 1 less.
-using food (cereal, cookies, macaroni noodles, spaghetti noodles, etc.) have them count out 10 more, 10 less, 1 more, 1 less than a given amount.

-using pennies and dimes to show 10 more, 10 less, 1 more, 1 less.


In Science, we will continue with magnets. Social Studies will continue our unit on Folktales (Johnny Appleseed, Paul Bunyan, John Henry, Annie Oakley, and Davy Crockett)
