This weeks agenda and reminders 11/28


In ELA/Reading we are reading An Egg is an Egg This story's phonics lesson focuses on sounds of y(long e and long i). Grammar for this unit deals with verbs

*Review these concepts with your child by:
-having your child write sentences and circle the verbs

-having your child find verbs in TV commercials, on websites, etc.
-having your child find words with the long e and long i sound for y in magazines, newspapers, billboards, etc. and making a book with these new found words.
-use the spelling games from:  http://www.quia.com/jg/1096779.html and http://www.spellingcity.com/mmoon1916/
-making flashcards to read and repeat(spelling words, sight words, amazing words).
**Repetition is key!!

In Math, we will be focusing on shapes(flats and solids) and fractions(mainly whole, half, and fourths).
*You can review these concepts with your child by:
-having them tell you how to split foods in halves and fourths

-giving your child items with which they have to split into equal amounts
-having your child draw 2 dimensional (flat) shapes
-having a shape hunt (in the grocery store, car, mall etc. where your child has to find a shape that you call out)
-utilizing xtramath.org  (for continued addition and subtraction help)

In Science, we are focusing on light and sound. 
In Social Studies, we will continue to talk about landforms and economics.
*Science Vocabulary: energy, light, shadow, sound, volume, pitch, vibration
*Social Studies Vocabulary:
-scarcity, goods, services, wants, needs, spending saving
-mountain, valley, plateau, desert, plain, ocean, continent

Odyssey is also a website that can be utilized at home to reinforce concepts taught in school.  Each teacher places activities that  deal with the concepts studied in the classroom.  Remember repetition is key!

In ELA/Reading we are reading Honey Bees .This story's phonics lesson focuses on CVCe(long u). Grammar will deal with nouns, compounds and contractions.
 Spelling Words: be, feet, green, he, me, see, she, tree, we, week, some, family
  Sight Words: also, family, new, other some, their
*Review these concepts with your child by:
-having your child write sentences and circle the nouns 

-having your child find nouns, compounds and contractions in TV commercials, on websites, magazines, newspapers, billboards, etc.
-having your child find long e (CVVC)  words in magazines, newspapers, billboards, etc. and making a book with these new found words.
-use the spelling games from:  http://www.quia.com/hm/308585.html and http://www.spellingcity.com/view-spelling-list.html?listId=1540693&x=17846
-making flashcards to read and repeat(spelling words, sight words, amazing words).


In Math, we will be focusing on beginning money.
*You can review these concepts with your child by:
-making them identify coins found in your purse, pocket, wallet and try counting them

-making them count lunch money, money for toys, etc.
-allowing them to help pay for things by discussing what you may need to purchase
-utilizing xtramath.org  (for continued addition and subtraction help)
