This Week in First! (Week of April 9)

Tippy-Toe Chick, Go!

Agenda and reminders for the week of April 9, 2012

In ELA/Reading we are reading Tippy Toe Chick, Go!.  This story is an animal fantasy about a chick who won't let his size stop him from getting his favorite snack in the dog protected garden.  This story's phonics lesson focuses on ow words.  The secondary phonics concept deals with C+ le words.  The grammar concept is focuses on writing commands. 

*Review these concepts with your child by:
-having your child differentiate between sentences that are commands and sentences that are statements.
 -having your child make a ow flip book with various words.
-use starfall.com (Starfall)
*Can your child read the story outside of the book? Try it! http://www.soundcityreading.com/rsstories5-1.pdf
**Repetition is key!!

In Math, we will start Unit 6.  This unit is a continued review of previously taught concepts. 
*You can review any of the concepts taught throughtout the school year:
-having your child count change in your pockets, purse, the couch, the car etc.

In Science, we are focusing on weather and water(weather patterns, water cycle). 
*Science Vocabulary: 
seasons, weather, water cycle, condensation, precipitation, evaporation

In Social Studies, we will review economics.
*Social Studies Vocabulary:
scarcity, goods, services, consumers, producers, wants, needs
