This week in First!

Agenda and reminders for the week of January 9, 2012

In ELA/Reading we are reading I'm a caterpillar.  This story is about the life cycle of a caterpillar.  
This story's phonics lesson focuses on r controlled "er", "ir", and "ur".  The secondary phonics concept is Grammar for this unit deals with verbs.
*Review these concepts with your child by:
-having your child write sentences and circle the verbs
-having your child find verbs in TV commercials, on websites, etc.
-having your child find words with the-ed or -ing in magazines, newspapers, billboards, etc. and making a book with these new found words to help with reading practice.
-use the spelling/phonics games from:

-making flashcards to read and repeat(spelling words, sight words, amazing words).

This week in First (January 16, 2012)

In ELA/Reading we will not have a Reading Street story.  We will instead be utilizing AIMS to track growth in our students since the last testing in September.You can still practice previously covered phonics skills through

**Repetition is key!!

-(if you have a scale) measure the weight of objects, getting your child to become comfortable with the terms weight, heavy, light and pound
